1997 CACF
This
festival was hosted by the Garfield Community at the Garfield
playfield, (2323 E. Cherry Street)
July 25-27, 1997. Located
in one of Seattle’s oldest
communities, the festival celebrated the diverse cultures and rich history the
Central community has fostered. The theme for the festival was Family,
Diversity and Unity.
The festival featured activities such as a family carnival, youth art exhibits,
poetry readings, food booths, sports, musical entertainment and cultural
exhibits. It was the goal of the festival organizers to offer something of
interest to everyone in the community.

The Central Area Community
Festival was selected as a finalist in the 3rd Annual King County Producers
Awards. Seven distinguished local and national judges spent approximately two
weeks reviewing 132 KEPA entries. The judges selected CACF as one of the
leading entries in three specific categories: Best Special Event (budget
under $25,000), Best New Event of 1997, and Best Volunteer Managed Event.
The KEPA Dinner was held on February
19, 1998 at the Westin Hotel. The organizers of the festival,
Victor Minor, Rodney Stokes and Donna Bradfield along with representatives
from the sponsors who supported the festival were present at the CACF table.
There was stiff competition between the finalists. All finalists walked away
from the award ceremony feeling delighted for being recognized for their project
and efforts. All who were present were winners, for they gave of themselves
to share with others.
The highlight of the
night was when "The Central Area Community Festival" was
awarded the trophy for the Best Volunteer Managed Event.
"What we do, when we are
here, while we were here, is what we are, when we are gone."
